Preventative service is a type of maintenance that protects your vehicle from damage by fixing minor issues before they develop into major ones. As your Lincoln dealership, we want to tell you a few signs you need to visit our service department for a repair.

3 Signs Your Lincoln Needs Preventative Service at Your Lincoln Dealership

Rising Engine Temperature

The temperature gauge on your dashboard allows you to see your engine’s temperature at a glance. The engine operates most efficiently at high temperatures between 195° F and 220° F, but the temperature must be controlled to prevent damage to sensitive engine components. Your Lincoln has a highly efficient cooling system that uses coolant to absorb heat and transport it to the radiator for removal.

It’s normal for the engine temperature to rise if you’re towing a heavy load or accelerating, but the temperature should drop again as the cooling system speeds up to compensate. If your engine temperature rises for no obvious reason, you could have a coolant leak or a blockage in the cooling system. We’ll investigate and fix the issue to prevent any damage.

Screeching Brakes

Screeching noises from the brakes might sound good in movies, but if you hear them each time you brake, one or more brake pads are worn and need replacement. The brake pads are a crucial part of the braking system, as they have a rough material covering that generates friction against the spinning rotors, which brings your vehicle to a stop.

A pad’s material covering gradually wears down, and when the material thickness reaches 1/4″, the pad needs to be replaced. Pad manufacturers install a metal spike as a warning device inside the material to alert you. The metal spike becomes visible when the pad has worn down, and it will scratch against the rotor, producing a high-pitched screech. We’ll replace the worn pads, and the noise will stop.

Wiper Blade Replacement

Good wiper blades are essential in rain or snow to keep the windshield clear so you can see to drive safely. The blades are made from high-quality rubber to allow them to flex easily and prevent damage to the glass as they clean. As time passes, the rubber loses its suppleness due to exposure to heat, cold, rain, and sunshine, and it can crack.

Cracked blades can’t effectively clean the windshield, resulting in smears and restricted visibility when you need it most. Additionally, the damaged blades can scratch the windshield glass, potentially causing cracks and the need for a windshield repair or replacement. Our technicians can replace worn blades in minutes to prevent any of these problems.
